Our
story
Teal House Coffee and Bakery was originally founded by our family, the Phillips, in our teal house as a family-operated cottage business. Our neighborhood featured our family and our cottage business on the cover of their 2017 publication with a photo of us sitting on the front porch of our teal house.
Our entrepreneurial inspiration came from a neighbor who advertised paella for sale on our neighborhood’s facebook page with tremendous success. Her success encouraged us to begin offering cinnamon rolls and apple pies to our neighbors on Father’s Day 2016. Our five children had dreamed of going to Disney World so all of our profits from selling baked goods initially went towards funding our family’s Disney vacation.
The business quickly became a family affair with our two older daughters learning to make the cinnamon rolls and pies from scratch, the younger siblings lending a hand when needed, and the family dog greeting neighbors as they stopped by to pick up their orders. Our cottage business continued to grow in popularity with 31 dozen cinnamon roll orders for Memorial Day and 60 apple pie orders for Thanksgiving that year.
Since then, our menu has expanded to include several other baked goods along with specialty coffee. As Teal House has grown, our family’s vision for the business has also grown. In the beginning of 2018, we began to dream about purchasing a food truck so our customers could conveniently pick up their coffee and baked goods on their daily commutes. Later that year, we opened our Teal House Coffee and Bakery food truck in Southeast Austin.
In 2020 we began the process of designing and building out our first brick and mortar storefront on South Congress which opened in 2021. Come on by and see us!
